Pinewood Derby 2017

Feb 25th is Race Day!

Van Sciver School

Get ready, racing fans!

Our all-metal track is now seasoned for 2017 racing!

Update: Snack/drink donations are needed for the Pack to sell at the Concession Stand. Please email cubscoutpack179@outlook.com if you can bring anything before 9:00am!

The pinewood derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels, and metal axles.

Our Pack’s derby runs once a year, and is our #1 event!

Every boy should design and build his own “grand prix” car – help is encouraged, but everyone can tell when an adult builds a car compared to a 7-year-old’s work.

Come join the Pack for a morning of racing and fun!

Klondike 2017 with Troop 179 Recap

Congratulations to Julian C. and Zach K.!

Both boys, as Webelos, ran with sleds to help Boy Scout Troop #179 compete in the 2017 Klondike Derby. They did their part pulling the sled from site to site, orienteered, did mock first aid, speed knot-tied and solved trial emergency situations. And of course Commissioner’s Soup and tons of donuts at chow time!

More details are on the Troop website.

See you next year!
