Cubs, get ready to race!

New for 2016 – we purchased an all-metal, new track. Thanks to the Pope family for helping make this a reality. We will have this new track for years!

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Our Pack’s derby runs once a year.

The Scout is given a block of wood made of pine with two notches for wheels, four plastic wheels and four nails. The finished car must use all nine pieces, must not exceed a certain weight, must not exceed a certain length and must fit on our Pack’s track.

Every boy should design and build his own “grand prix” car – help is encouraged, but everyone can tell when an adult builds a car compared to a 7-year-old’s work.

Come join the Pack for a morning of racing and fun!
